Emily Irene VanCamp was originally looking to become a dancer but after a visit to her sister Katie's set on Ladies Room, she became more inclined to act. While taking classes in acting and directing, she was also offered part-time roles in Canadian television shows. VanCamp made a significant career break when he got selected to play the role of regular Sam Dolan in WB's horror mystery series Glory Days. It was cancelled after nine episodes despite the positive reviews and poor ratings. On May 12, 1986, the actress quickly secured another part in Everwood. Her character Amy Abbott is one of the major characters. Her part in the movie brought her the film four Teen Choice Awards nominations and the Young Artist Award.
